Summer pedestrianization of the Well
2 June au 19 September 2025

This year, Promenade Wellington will once again be pedestrianized, from June 2 to September 19, 2025 – the perfect place to stroll, make beautiful discoveries and let yourself be carried by the current. 🌊

As in previous years, here’s how the pedestrianization will work:

🚧 From June 2, street closure by the Borough of Verdun between Régina and 6th Avenue.
🏄 Gradual installation of landscaping by SDC Wellington to bring the street into summer.

The summer season will once again be guided by the street’s welcoming and dynamic ambience, comfortable, flowery and shady layouts; even more greenery and a cultural and artistic program marked by Verdun’s 150th anniversary festivities!

🛥️ Wellington Street will reopen to cars on Friday, September 19, 2025.

FAQ
Got questions? We answer them here!

When will Wellington Street be closed to cars, and when will vehicular traffic resume?

Promenade Wellington will be entirely pedestrianized between Régina Street and 6th Avenue, from June 2, 2025, until September 19, 2025.

The dismantling process will take place gradually, starting on September 15, and the street will reopen to cars on September 19.

Are bikes allowed on Promenade Wellington during the pedestrianization period?

Bicycles are tolerated on Promenade Wellington during the pedestrianization period. However, the street is first and foremost reserved for pedestrians, and cyclists must adapt accordingly.

Cyclists, here are the key elements for good cohabitation on the Well :

  • Slow down! Adapt your behavior to the flow of traffic. When the street is calm, you can ride at walking speed (maximum 5 km/h). In busy periods or during rush hour, it’s strongly recommended that you get off your bike and walk alongside.
  • Keep a safe distance. A minimum of two meters must be maintained between cyclists and pedestrians at all times. No one likes to be tailgated, whether on foot or on a bike.
  • Be extra vigilant. Pay particular attention to the presence of children, who can change direction quickly.
  • Use bike paths for longer distances. If you need to cover several stretches or cross Verdun, we recommend using the bike paths on Verdun Street or those along the river.

This project aims to encourage active travel and accessibility to shops, while preserving a safe and pleasant environment for all users.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Am I allowed to set up a kiosk to sell or promote my business/organization on rue Wellington?

No. Only Promenade Wellington merchants are authorized to go out, in front of their businesses, during pedestrianization to sell their products. No sales, solicitation, advertising or promotional booths are permitted on the street.

Failure to comply with these rules may result in a fine issued by city inspectors.

Am I allowed to consume alcohol on the pedestrian street?

Under article 3 of the Règlement concernant la paix et l’ordre sur le domaine public de la Ville de Montréal, it is forbidden to consume alcoholic beverages on public property.

What will be the features and amenities on Promenade Wellington?

Many terrasses and areas will be set up at several points along the street. They will welcome visitors who wish to store, work or relax during their visit to Wellington.

Several swings and deckchairs will be set up along the pedestrian street to relax and have a good time. The pétanque court will also be back, and to add to the fun, game-style frescoes will be painted on the ground.

Check out the “Amenities and programming” tab to find out all about it!

Will there be accessible restrooms on Promenade Wellington?

Yes, two toilets, including one for people with reduced mobilitý, will be installed at the corner of Wellington Street and De L’Église Street, next to the church.

I’m moving from Promenade Wellington during the pedestrianization. Can I enter the street with a vehicle?

In the event of a move or for other exceptional reasons (e.g. renovation work requiring the occupation of a public domain space, etc.), you must apply to the borough for a permit to occupy the public domain at least 2 days before the desired date. You’ll need to fill out the online form on the Ville de Montréal website to request a work permit.

For moving on the pedestrian street, you can write to the following address: verdun-ing@ville.montreal.qc.ca.
