Festival Marionnettes Plein la rue 2018
25 August au 26 August 2018

1.3 km of Rue Wellington will be taken over by Puppets show and by a multitude of highly-colourful characters who will wander through the crowd.
With a focus on short puppet shows (35 minutes or less), the festival will be offering sixty performances in parks and other spaces around Promenade Wellington. Eighteen companies (one coming all the way from France!) will present, for free, a range of creations which will move and fascinate both big and small.
Festival Marionnettes Plein la rue is the familial event to fill their minds with impressive imagery before heading back to school!

Supported by an eclectic soundtrack, sometimes rock and sometimes classical, this human-sized puppet animation is fixed and speechless. In the space of 25 minutes, the expressive Edgar will go through all ranges of emotions as he creates an abstract work of art. It's up to you to observe the artist and his metamorphoses!

Shrimp and Coco dressed up for the annual open doors of the Great Beings Orphanage. Neat, combed, straight and smiling, they wait patiently for a couple of future parents to choose either one or the other or better yet: both! Suitcases in hand, they wait, they wait, then ... wait again.
To fool boredom, they will create a world full of adventures and dreams.

SCENE 10

Short form for puppets in flat and commedia dell'arte. The Theater of Utopia offers a comic allegory about power and manipulation. The chamberlain and his procession assert all the power of the monarchy, encouraging the public to submit to the king with promises sometimes absurd, sometimes attractive. Will the people be persuaded?

SCENE 11

The Other is a puppet of human size, animated by four puppeteers, walking in various shops and public places of the Promenade. As if she were a true citizen, she experiences the human daily life by making realistic actions. Beyond the simple animation, the presence of this "other citizen" is a sensitive experience on the border between the imaginary and the real.

The Puppet Machine will offer a 90 minute workshop on Saturday and Sunday. The theme of Saturday will be a crawling puppet with stems. Small designers will decide for themselves whether it will be a caterpillar, a snake, a marine slug or even a dragon!
